The Off-Script Initiative is Charlotte’s first and only organization intended to engage with and connect black theatre artists in the area. The goal is to create a community that supports, teaches, inspires, and uplifts one another, taking the energy and effort that we put into our work on stage and extending it beyond the performance. We want to spark conversation and action, support creation of new work, and enrich the communities in which we live and create. We are currently gathering interest and plan to begin meeting in the summer of 2026.

As of now, the Off-Script Initiative will be focusing on black, cultural, and socially conscious theater. Black and BIPOC artists are heavily encouraged to participate, however, meetings will be open to anyone who has a genuine interest in learning from the perspectives of black artists.

Eventually we hope to expand into creating a social and cultural organization for all who are interested in Theatre Arts in Charlotte, while maintaining a core group that continues to be dedicated to exploration, growth, and specified needs for black artists in Charlotte.
